Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated...

Wow....where have I been? I treat this blog like R. Kelly treats his ladies.

Seriously, I used to be so reliable, posting (almost) daily and then WHAM! I disappear for months at a time.

So...how have you been?

Here's some linky-links to what I've been up to in terms of writing:

We're also up to issue four of "76" and the Sorrow trade paperback has come out...

So far Summer has been a whirlwind full of hiking, working, reading, skating (got new hockey skates for Father's Day!), broken bones, turtles, driving, facebooking, swimming, diving, baseball, playing catch with my beeyootiful wife, drinking lemonade, mowing the yard, experimenting with soups from The Mixx, having Jacob visit, going to weddings, listening to Kristy sing, and lots of assorted skullduggery.

More tomorrow...

Frabba Jabba

Wow, it looks like I managed to skip April entirely...lots happened, most of it good, and May finds us all healthy, happy, with all limbs intact.

Huuugs!

This is pretty much the best blog going. More of young Phillipe's adventures can be found online at Achewood

Achewood has been praised by Time magazine as "profoundly genius", so you can pretend it's highbrow literature...

Orange Roughy

St. Louis

We had a GREAT time in St. Louis last weekend, with the City Museum being the highlight of the trip. I'm not sure I could really put the place into words, so here's the link:

It's like some sort of post-apocalpytic playground built by artists and spelunking enthusiasts. I could have spent several days there and not gotten bored (and still not have seen the whole thing). We're going back in a couple weeks after we go to the Blues game.

Also had time to visit with family, the Butterfly House (BEAUTIFUL), and all that good stuff.

Jacob

Jacob met us in St. Louis and came back with us for his Spring Break. He's such a great kid; smart, funny, caring, just a real joy to have around. It's hard having him live so far away, but it's tempered by the fact that he's growing up into such a wonderful young man. In many ways he'll always be my "first born", and I could not be more proud of him.

Narrow Stairs

I haven't talked about music in a while (maybe I should go back to the daily soundtracks), but I'm looking forward to the new Death Cab for Cutie album that's due out in April. They've just released the first single, "I Will Possess Your Heart".

Home Cooking
Kristy and I are learning to COOK and our first meal was a rousing success. Sitting down and having dinner with the entire family is something that seems to be slowly fading away from the American landscape, and while it's tough to do with everyone's hectic schedules, we're gonna make it a regular thing around our house.

Nanageddon

My wife has great pipes!

Went out for my usual Tuesday night gay piano bar karaoke last night and goddamn can Kristy sing. Even when competing with a way too loud, way too fast piano she sounds great.

For those who were wondering, my boisterous version of "The Rum Tum Tugger" (from "CATS") had the crowd on it's feet.

STL

Taking a little family vacation this weekend to St. Louis. We're planning to hit the zoo, Science City, the Butterfly House, and whatever else we have time for. The best part? We're meeting Jacob there!

Random bits

I am the WORST Guitar Hero player of all time!

I've been craving tomato-based soups lately.

Scott Pilgrim volume 4 is genius. I picked it up at the library after paying $70 in fines. The Johnson County Public Library had instructions to shoot me on sight.

I might give hockey a go again this Fall. I need to get in better shape if that's gonna happen.

I'm thinking of pursuing a teaching career...or going back for my PhD in Psychology. Kristy thinks I should give law enforcement (the FBI?) a try...the only thing for certain is that corporate life is unfulfilling and not my cup of tea.

Reign Mundane

It's raining, I have a black eye and a piece of glass in my foot...other than that I'm just grand.

If you tolerate this your children will be next...

I posted this here a year or so back, but it bears another look.

http://www.nationalpriorities.org/costofwar_home

Absolutely criminal what is being done with "our money". Por ejemplo; with just the money spent on ballistic missile defense in FY2007 (11.1 billion dollars), we could have provided 3,262,844 people with health care.

The amount paid to date on the war would build 38,313 NEW elementary schools.

A big FUCK YOU to anyone who voted for GW from every child in America.

Bracketology

It's that time of year again. My wife is a current Jayhawk, and I'm a KU grad, so we're obviously biased, but DAMN the 'Hawks looked GOOD this weekend. We watched the championship game at Greg's house on Sunday, and it was one of the best college games I've seen in a long time. Here's to hoping they can make a run at the title...

Cornflake Girl

The editor of the Tori Amos anthology dropped me a line to say my story was one of Tori's favorites, which is a fucking thrill and a half. She also said it gave her the "heebie heebies" (in a good way)...

Tonight

The Mixx, bad TV, and watching my wife dominate "Guitar Hero III"...

Fry Daddy

Game on!

Saturday April 5th

Columbus at St. Louis

Kristy, me, Greg and Sara will be in attendance.

As much as I love the Blues, I'm looking forward to seeing Nash play in person.

Necessity is the mother of invention

If all technology moved at the pace of razor, toothbrush, and cat litter technology, I'd be jet-packing to Mars this weekend...

Sleeping with politicians for money is a great way to pimp your Myspace page

Why is a hypocritcal, tail-chasing politician such a news story? Aren't we still blowing up brown people in our eleventy-billion dollar war? Spitzer makes a fun target since he rode such a high horse, but NYC and corruption go together like chocolate and peanut butter.

He ought to be castrated for dragging his poor wife up there with him as a human shield though.

Kicking and screaming

I'm (assistant) coaching a girls soccer team this year. That's the game where you can't use your hands, right?

Wee little man

That travelocity gnome is up to no good...
